Policy Review: Truancy & Check out/Check In Policy *** Truancy: If a student is absent from class and a parent/guardian has not contacted the school to excuse that student, the attendance secretary will notify parents by phone, email, or mail of the student’s absence. If a student chooses to be absent without completing the steps outlined above, no credit will be given for make-up work. A student shall be considered truant if absent without school and/or parental/guardian permission. A student will also be considered truant for cutting class or leaving the building without following the proper checkout procedure. A forged excuse or providing an incorrect reason for absence to avoid a penalty will also constitute truancy and fall under a major rule violation as stated in the student discipline policy. *** *** Check-out/Check-In Policy: All students must officially check out at the office before leaving the school grounds. This applies to students who are 18 years of age as well. Before checking out, the student must have permission from a parent or legal guardian. If students arrive on campus any time after the first tardy bell, they must check in at the office and be issued a tardy slip before attending class.

We are so excited for this amazing opportunity. Western Welding Academy will be here on March 11 for this all-day opportunity for all students, not just those involved in welding. Late Work and Academic Dishonesty *** Late-Work Policy: There will be a maximum one-week time frame (7 calendar days) for students to make-up or turn in any missing assignments, missing tests, missing projects, etc. from the original due date. This policy will apply to all classes at Malad High School. Teachers may deduct points or allow additional attempts at their own discretion. Policy Review Tuesday: Academic Grades *** These policies apply to classes being taught and grades applied for Malad High School credit. College concurrent enrollment classes are under the jurisdiction of the approved college syllabus. *** “F” Grades: A student may repeat a subject to improve a grade. Transcripts sent out from the school will show the historical grade and also the grade earned on the subject that was repeated. GPA will be calculated using the higher of the two grades. *** Grade Appeals: All grades can be appealed for up to two weeks after grades are posted for that semester. After the two-week period, the grades become permanent. If a student chooses to drop a class after the first two weeks they will automatically receive an “F” grade for that class and will not receive credit for the new class that they enroll in. *** Incomplete Grades: Incomplete grades must be completed no later than two weeks after a semester ends or the grade will automatically become an “F”.

MHS Class and Program Highlight: Computer Science *** cobabecs.github.io shows off some of the Java projects that Computer Science students have worked on in our Computer Science class. Each link is a game or project that we have either worked on as a class, or a student has created on their own. This site, cobabecs.github.io, gives students a chance to look back on their achievements in future years, and it gives community members a chance to see what neat programs our computer science students have been working on. *** To make the game downloads work, you will have to download the most recent version of Java JDK 17. The link to the proper download is on the website, and you will have to download the installer for your specific operating system.
